Thanks for the reply. I’ve seen a couple sites through out that 7.1mm figure as the thickest point, but it doesn’t add up. I again took a promotional profile shot of the Finder, zoomed in, and did some generous measuring in Oppo’s favor. I ended up with at least 7.85mm, but it is likely more. Even looking at that Chinese site with the comparison photos shows that the iPhone 5 is thinner than the Finder’s bump. Check out http://fashion.pconline.com.cn/article_group/147774.html and zoom in. Measure it. In fact the Stratagy Analytics site posted by the author in another reply states that the “Oppo Finder phone is hiding a significant camera bump which probably makes it thicker than 7.6mm.”
As for the Huawei Ascend P1 S, it is listed as 6.68mm, but has a camera bump, and a chin. Again there are no published specs from the company, and it appears no one has measured it and posted the figures. So zooming in on a promotional profile picture, I measured approximately 8.29mm at the chin.
As for the Droid RAZR which is listed at 7.1mm? Several sites put the hump at the top at 11.1mm. I didn’t bother measuring that one.
The Fujitsu ARROWS ES IS12F mentioned in the Strategy Analytics post is a wedge that tapers from 8.5mm to 6.7mm.
The Pantech Vega S5 is quoted at several sites to be 6.89mm and the hump doesn’t look to be too significant. My preliminary measurements put it at around 7.33mm. So this one really stumped me, especially because it doesn’t look that thin. So I ended up going straight to the source. Pantech’s own website lists the thickness as 9mm. All those sites reporting 6.89mm were in July and must have originated from a typo or misinformation somewhere.
There was also a leak of a ZTE Athena at 6.2mm in May, however, nothing has been heard since to my knowledge. Additionally, the leaked photo appears to show a chin on the back, which is characteristic of other ZTE phones I’ve seen. So, we will have to see when that actually gets released, but I’m not holding my breath.
In summary:
iPhone 5: 7.6mm
Oppo Finder: Approx. 7.85mm
Huawei Ascend P1 S: Approx. 8.29mm
Fujitsu ARROWS ES IS12F: 8.5mm
Pantech Vega S5: 9mm
